In the Archdiocese of New Orleans, our Archbishop, Gregory Aymond, has called a three day meeting of every Priest across the entire Archdiocese. This is a bold gathering that requires, among other things, no daily morning Masses at parishes across the Archdiocese. From noon Tuesday through afternoon Thursday the many Priests, diocese and religious order, will meet in prayer and brotherhood. The Archbishop will deliver a state of the Archdiocese talk and the Priests will be able to gather in both large and small groups to share their experiences at pastoring and ministering to the people of God.
To that end, the many Deacons of the Archdiocese have united in solidarity to support this effort of our Archbishop and the Priests. Deacons across the footprint of the Archdiocese have made themselves available to conduct communion services so that daily Mass attendees can still hear His Word and receive Jesus in daily Communion. Many Deacons will rearrange schedules to be more present around the parish and schools of the Archdiocese as a presence while the Priests meet. And tonight, our Diaconate Director, Deacon Ray, has arranged for a prayer vigil in support of the three day meeting. Every Deacon, spouse, children and even friends of the Deacon are invited to gather in prayer for our Priests as special readings and music have been prepared. I'll post later about another aspect of this prayer vigil for Priests but that needs to wait for tomorrow.
As for me and my wife, we are still in Chicago on vacation so we will remember tonight our Priests in prayer when we do evening prayer. I especially want to remember in prayer my Pastor, Fr. Rodney and associate Fr. Dean from MHT parish as well as Fr. Robert and Fr. Jeffrey from my home parish in Abita, St. Jane de Chantal.
Whoever is reading this can join all of us in prayer for the good Priests of the Archdiocese of New Orleans and in your home diocese too!
